Movies Near the Beach: Venice and Ocean Park

I've always been interested in theatres at amusement areas. Some of it comes from going to movies in Disneyland and other theme parks around the country. But I missed out on the action in most of the beach towns that had theatres on or near the beach.

I've been doing research on Venice and Ocean Park Theatres. See the page for what I could find in the archives. A lot of it is murky. Many changes of address, many devastating pier fires. The pictorial record that survives is largely on old postcards. Thanks to Jeffrey Stanton and other collector/historians, there are many fun things left to look at.

In addition to the survey page linked above, I've also added a page about the Fox Venice (nowhere near the beach) -- shown here in a 2010 view. The tangled stories of the two main Ocean Park venues, the Rosemary and the Dome also get their own pages.

If you know of anything else online (or in your attic) that will help document these seaside pleasure palaces, send it along.
