This lovely view is looking south on Broadway from 1st St. perhaps around 1905. The card is one item I added recently to the Mason Theatre page.
The light colored building on the right is the theatre, at this point called the Mason Opera House, which opened in 1903. You can click on the image to go to the full size view on Flickr.
You could go to the page on the theatre and look at many other great views that I've stumbled across in different archives. But this post is really to salute Ms. Fuller and her wonderful Old Los Angeles Postcards collection on Flickr.
I've been adding links to her cards all over my web pages for several years now. You'll find many of the major theatres represented in her collection. She's on the pages for the Chinese, the Egyptian, the Warner Bros. Hollywood -- and the list just goes on and on.
The collection is now up to 659 cards and, since it had been awhile, I spent a day last week exploring it again. The last time I had looked the archive was about 200 cards smaller so I found all sorts of new treasures to add to the pages for Loew's State, the United Artists and others.
Check it out. It's fun to browse through whether you are looking for beaches, houses, hotels, parks or whatever. It's a gloriously vast swath of vintage Los Angeles. Bravo!
