Lost Long Beach -- more investigations

Check out the page I recently added on the State Theatre in Long Beach if you want some evocative views of a lost world. The photo here is a view from the California State Library.

On their website: a full size view. It's sad that we don't have more interior photos of this gem.

I love the idea of theatres right on the beach. The State fits the bill wonderfully. But also check out the new page on another one nearby: the Boller Bros. designed Tracy Theatre. With his one, we're more fortunate about surviving interior photos. Once again it's the great collection of the California State Library that gives us lots to look at.

Another nearby theatre that has survived only in photos is the United Artists. Built in the 30s only for films, it was nonetheless quite a showplace.

More to come on the vanished theatres of Long Beach over the next few months!
