An Evocative View of Quinn's Superba

This is one of my favorite downtown Los Angeles photos. It appears on Wikipedia with the image credited to the New York Times Archive. Click on the image to go to the full size view.

We're looking south on Broadway on a rainy night in 1920 at the luminous string of three theatres on the east side of the 500 block. Quinn's Superba, Clune's Broadway and the Pantages are featured. Quinn's was only open two more years after this photo. The building then became a restaurant and, years later, was demolished to make room for the Roxie Theatre.

Head to the Quinn's Superba listing on the Broadway Theatres page and, in addition to this great view, you'll find two other new items -- night postcard views from Cezar Del Valle's collection. More of Cezar's collection seems to pop up daily on his two Flickr sites, Theatre Talks and Theatre Posts.

Also visit our pages on Clune's (now the Cameo Theatre) and the Pantages (now the Arcade Theatre) for more views of the block.
