"West Side Story" is back in 70mm -- at the Aero Friday August 9th

The Sharks and the Jets are back. In 70mm and 6 channel stereo. And in person. Before the film, there will be a booksigning of  "Our Story: Jets and Sharks Then and Now." Cast members Robert Banas (Joyboy), Gina Trikonis (Graziella, Riff's girlfriend) and Maria Jimenez Henley (Teresita, Shark's girlfriend), will sign books and also introduce the screening.

The 1961 musical, directed by Robert Wise, plays at the Aero in Santa Monica on Friday, August 9th at 7:30 pm. See the Aero's events calendar for more offerings or check out the page for this August 9 screening.

The original reserved seat engagement was at the Chinese, opening in December 1961 for a 57 week run.  In 70mm, of course, on the huge screen. The photo here, from the Richard Wojcik collection, appeared on the Mid Century Modern Facebook page.

The photo also appears on our Chinese Theatre street view page, along with many, many more vintage exterior views of the theatre.

See our Aero Theatre web page for more about that historic Santa Monica venue.
