Santa Monica Blvd. at Cotner Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90025 | map |
A drawing of the new theatre appearing in the May 4, 1939 issue of the Santa Monica Evening Outlook. It was a project of George Bourke and M.E. Baylis, owners at the time of the nearby Nuart and Tivoli theatres. The Tivoli is now known as the Royal Theatre.
Status: The project was never built. Cotner Ave. is the first street east of the 405. It's unknown which corner was going to get the theatre building.
The article appearing with the illustration in the May 4, 1939 Evening Outlook. Many thanks to Samuel Dórame for locating the article and illustration. See his site "Sawtelle 1897 to 1929" for lots of terrific research about the neighborhood.
Looking north on Cotner Ave. toward the intersection with Santa Monica Blvd. That's the 405 on the left. Photo: Google Maps - 2018
