Idylwild Theatre

2361 E. 9th St. Los Angeles, CA 90013 | map |

Opened: The Idylwild Theatre opened in 1912 or a bit earlier. It was on the north side of the street at Santa Fe Ave. This section of E. 9th is now called E. Olympic Blvd.

In the 1912 city directory under "motion picture theatres" a W. A. Kerr gets a listing at this address. In the 1914 directory under "theatres" it's R. E. Scheidler. An ad in 1914 noted: "Change of programme daily E. 9th St & Santa Fe - This is a picture house not a vaudeville show."

In the 1915, 1916 and 1917 city directories it's listed as the Idylwild at 2361 E. 9th. In 1917 it made it into the alphabetical section but isn't listed under "motion picture theatres."

Closing: The date is unknown. It's not in the 1918 city directory.

Status: The building it was in has been demolished. The city planning department's website notes that the two buildings on the site date from 1924 and 1937.
