The coffers of the auditorium ceiling are decorated by at least 25 different patterns including helmeted warriors, staffs of wheat, boys riding on fish, coasts of arms, birds, horses, lyres and mermaids. While Allison and Allison designed the building, it's unknown who on the team designed and executed these. Thanks to Haley Stoessl for taking these images of various areas of the ceiling in March 2026. The lighting was dismal but this should give you an idea of the work.
A hanging point for one of the auditorium's four chandeliers. They were removed during the renovations that were begun in 2015. The grille around the center tube is for exhaust air to be drawn into the plenum space above the ceiling.
A fish wearing a crown perhaps representing a magical fish with special powers to bestow wishes. On the right it appears to be a Phoenix.
In the lower center that wheat sheaf represents fertility, bounty and resurrection.
A helmeted warrior at the center of this section.
The Caduceus of Mercury.
Two fish in a circle, a symbol of the Pisces zodiac sign, symbolizing the duality of nature.
Looks like a mermaid in the upper left and Cupid with his arrows toward the lower left.
A Centaur over on the left and a Roman-looking ship toward the lower right.
We get a boy riding a dolphin in the lower center coffer.
Thanks to Haley Stoessl for all her photos.
