Bell Theatre

314 E. 5th St. Los Angeles, CA 90013 | map |

This location is listed in the 1913 and 1914 city directories as the Bell Theatre. It was on the south side of the street between Wall St. and San Julian St.

They were looking for chorus girls via the L.A. Times classifieds in 1914. Thanks to Ken McIntyre for locating this as well as the two ads below for a post on the Photos of Los Angeles Facebook page.

A 1916 ad in the Times that lists the theatre as the New Fifth St. In the 1916 and 1917 directories it was called the East Fifth St. Theatre

This poor person who lost here watch near the theatre in 1917 is referring to it as the Bell. In the 1918 city directory it's again listed as the Bell Theatre.

Closing: 1918 might have been the end. It's not in the 1919 city directory.

Status: The building the Bell was in has been demolished. There's now a park on the site.
