Capitola Theatre

336 N. Avalon Blvd. Wilmington (Los Angeles), CA 90744 | map |

Opened: Perhaps 1914. It's listed in the 1914 L.A. city directory as the Crystal Theatre, 330 Canal St. In the 1915 L.A. city directory it's the Crystal at 336 Canal. It was on the east side of the street just south of D St.

In the 1923 San Pedro directory (under "theatres") and the 1925 Los Angeles directory (under "moving picture theatres") it was listed with its new name, the Capitola Theatre, still on Canal St.

Seating: 250, according to Cinema Treasures.

Closing: The date is unknown. Perhaps 1926 was the end of it. It's not in the 1927 or 1928 L.A. city directories or the 1928 San Pedro directory. By 1928 Canal St. had been renamed Avalon Blvd.

Status: It's been demolished.
