Opened: Around 1910. The building is on the east side of the street, three blocks south of E. Adams Blvd.
In the 1911 city directory under "moving picture theatres" there's a listing under for C.G. Davis, "SS San Pedro 1 S of E 27th." That "1 S" refers to its location at the corner of the first street south of 27th, now designated as an alley. In the 1912, 1913 and 1914 directories it's listed as the Star, at 2710 S. San Pedro.
In the 1916, 1917 and 1929 city directories it gets a 2708 address. They put it at 2712 in 1919 and 1921. C. G. Davis gets the listing again at 2710 S. San Pedro in 1918 and 1922. It appears in a September 2, 1923 Paramount Week ad as running their product.
Seating: 354
Closing: It was running as late as 1929. That seems to be the last city directory listing.
Status: It's now some anonymous commercial use. There's no signage. Joe Vogel notes that the city lists the 2,400 s.f building as having a 1910 construction date.
That's the Star building in the center of the image. On the left we're looking north toward E. 27th St. Photo: Google Maps - 2019
More information: Well, there really isn't any more yet. See the Cinema Treasures page about the Star Theatre for a few tidbits.
