It's been a theatre space since the mid-1960s. This was the first home of The Groundlings, the famous improvisational theatre troupe. The Eastwood website notes that Robert Altman used the theatre for workshops.
It's been called the Oxford Playhouse, the Los Angeles Actors’ Theatre and the Ensemble Studio Theatre. The space went dark after the last Ensemble production in 1988. In 1991 it became The Met, the revival of a group that included Ed Harris, Amy Madigan, Holly Hunter, Alfre Woodard and playwright Beth Henley. Before the move they had been active from 1973 to 1985 in a space on Poinsettia Place. The complex got a major renovation in the early 2020s. The Eastwood name? Not named after Clint. It's short for "East Hollywood."
