Wilshire Theatre

143 S. Western Ave.  Los Angeles, CA 90004
| map |

No, not the Fox Wilshire. Much earlier. This theatre 5 1/2 blocks north of Wilshire is listed in the 1915 and 1916 city directories. It was on the west side of the street between 1st and 2nd.

The assumption is that it didn't last long.

Status: Demolished. The LA City Planning Department's website gives a date of 1918 for the current building on the site.

Other theatres named Wilshire:

331 S. Western was the site of another a theatre called the Wilshire from 1921 to 1930. It was renamed the Embassy.

At 8440 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills is the Saban Theatre, which opened as the Fox Wilshire.  Later it was just known as the Wilshire Theatre.

At 1314 Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica is another Wilshire Theatre, known in its last years as the NuWilshire.
