Los Angeles Theatre Center

514 S. Spring St. Los Angeles, CA 90013 | map |

This is a complex of several legit theatres that opened in 1985. It's on the east side of the street just south of 5th. The lobby is inside the 1915 vintage Security Bank Building, the theatres are in the newer building in the center of the photo. Photo: Bill Counter - 2019

The tenant is now the Latino Theatre Company.

The Los Angeles Theatre Center in the Movies:

We're in the Los Angeles Theatre Center as Mark Wahlberg's lecture hall in "The Gambler" (Paramount, 2014). He's an English professor with problems. The film, directed by Rupert Wyatt, also stars Brie Larson, Jessica Lange, John Goodman, Anthony Kelley, George Kennedy, Alvin Ing and Michael Kenneth Williams. The cinematography was by Greig Fraser. See the Historic L.A. Theatres in Movies post for two more shots at this theatre from the film plus four pre-production and filming views. Also included are eight stage and basement shots at the Palace plus brief looks at the Los Angeles, Tower Theatre and Warner Downtown.
