Marion Morgan and her "Hot Hips." Presumably the ad dates from the mid-1930s. It once appeared on a page about burlesque on the site 1947 Project.
A May 8, 1936 ad for "Harlem on Parade." Thanks to Scott Collette for locating this for a post surveying Main St. burlesque theatres on his Forgotten Los Angeles Facebook page. He also has the post's album on Instagram. The first three photos in Scott's album are Alfred Eisenstadt views taken for Life featuring the display in the ticket lobby for "Harlem on Parade." They also appear on our exterior views page.

A July 1938 ad for Carrie Finnell and Betty Rowland at the Follies. It's featured in a Daily Mirror
post by Larry Harnisch about Finnell, who weighed about 300 pounds and
had "educated muscles." Or, as the L.A. Times put it about a previous
visit in an item also included in Mr. Harnisch's post: "she established
herself as a performer of unusual ability."

At the Follies in November 1946 it was "Hollywood Beauties" with Kay Renay along with "Harlem Cuties" featuring Baby Cox. In 1952 the Follies management packed up and moved down the street to the Burbank Theatre, just north of 6th. It was then sometimes advertised as the Burbank Follies, sometimes as the New Follies. When the "original" Follies reopened it was under new management.

A scoop! Pretty exciting, huh? "Direct from Miami." It's a November 1966 ad that Ken shared in a Photos of Los Angeles Facebook post in October 2023. Do you think he has a serious obsession about the Follies?
"Get into Show Business. We pay & teach exotic GO-GO." The ads are from February 1, 1967. That Hollywood theatre looking for "attractive and well mannered" usherettes was the Cinerama Dome. Thanks to theatre sleuth Ken McIntyre for locating this.
