Royal Playhouse

1016 W. 7th St. San Pedro (Los Angeles), CA 90731 | map |

Opening: This little legit house presumably opened in 1924. It's in the 1924 San Pedro city directory as "1016 N 7th." Evidently it was a stock company venue and also sometimes used for amateur theatricals. The location was on the north side of the street just west of Alma St.

Local historian John M. Houston gives an address for the Royal as at the corner of 7th and Alma according to a listing that appeared in an article by Bob Beck in the May 30, 1984 San Pedro News Pilot. It's a clipping from the collection of the San Pedro Bay Historical Society.

Closing: The date is unknown.

Status: Nothing is there now resembling a theatre. This section of 7th is all residential.

The block in 2017. We're looking east toward Alma St. Photo: Google Maps.
