Ocean Front Promenade near Ashland Ave. Ocean Park (Santa Monica), CA 90405
| map - approximate |
Opening: 1912 or earlier. It's not listed in the 1907 city directory. It's listed in the 1912 Santa Monica city directory compiled by the Los Angeles City Directory Co. before the big September 1912 fire. J.W. Brooks was listed as the proprietor with the address given as "Ocean Front nr Ashland."
It must have survived the fire. Either that or it got a quick rebuild.
The Santa Monica Outlook for April 1, 1913 reported that a Mr. O. F. Stone was manager. The theatre was participating, along with the Rosemary and the Princess Theatre, in a benefit for flood victims. The Princess was later renamed the Wonderland. The Rosemary was at the time in a temporary home on Trolleyway.
Closing: The date is unknown. It's not listed in the 1913 or 1915 city directories.
Status: Everything in that area has been demolished.
A look inland from the South Beach Park Playground toward where Ocean Park Promenade had intersected with Ashland Ave. before redevelopment. It's a 2020 photo by Peter Utrecht appearing on Google Maps.
More Information: There isn't any yet. The site Cinema Treasures has a page started but there's no data other than the dates.
