Alto Theatre

8862 S. Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90047 | map |

Opened: October 18, 1939 with Gloria Jean in "The Under Pup" along with Randolph Scott in "Coast Guard." The building is on the east side of the street four blocks south of Manchester Ave. It's east of Inglewood in the Gramercy Park neighborhood.

Joe Vogel notes that the project was mentioned in the August 26, 1939 issue of Boxoffice: "Construction has begun on a new 1000-seat house, to be called the Alto, being built by Milt Arthur, head of Cabart Theatres."

Status: It's been churched since 1955.

  1. Used to work there in late 80s early 90s I got realy good memories from this place was a theatre back then.
