Majestic Theatre

 6740 Greenleaf Ave. Whittier, CA 90601  | map |

Opened: June 23, 1911. It was an open-air venue operated by Whittier Amusement Co. The address of the site before renumbering was 118 N. Greenleaf Ave. The lot is on the east side of the street between Philadelphia St. and Bailey St.

Other Whittier theatres operating at this time were the Optic and the Family, both in the next block south. The Majestic is not in the 1911 Whittier city directory nor in the 1910, 1911 or 1912 phone books.

Seating: 500 was the announced number originally but they noted that they had room to add more.

The Majestic was indicated as "Open Air Theatre" in the 1912 Whittier Sanborn Fire Insurance Map that's in the Library of Congress collection. This detail is from Page 16 of the map.
