2003 - Looking north. Thanks to Adam Martin for sharing his photo on the
Cinema Tour page about the Belasco.
2003 - The entrance to the dance studio, later called the Belasco Ballroom. Photo - Adam Martin -

2007 - The original milk glass letters are
still used for the address. The marquee that extended out above the
readerboard has been gone for decades. Note the remnants of the supports. Photo: Bill Counter

c.2008 - The changeable milk glass letters, the last in use in the Los Angeles area. Thanks to Debra Jane Seltzer
for this photo from her delightful site
Roadside Architecture. The photo appears on a lovely page about
Opal Glass Signs. Don't miss the site's huge section on
Movie Theatres. Thanks to Noirish Los Angeles contributor Ethereal Reality for spotting this and including it on his
Noirish post #3379.
2008 - The view north to the Mayan in 2008. Thanks to Jeff Bridges for his photo on Flickr. Visit his 33 photo
Belasco Theatre set for many fine photos.
2010 - The entrance with its new signage. The reopening after renovations was March 2011. Photo: Bill Counter
2012 - The 11th St. side of the building. The faded sign on the side of the
building is for a church that hasn't been there since 1984. The windows
go into the dance studio. Photo: Bill Counter
2012 - A detail of some of the facade's cast stone work. Photo: Bill Counter
2014 - A flyover of the facade from Ian Wood's "
Downtown Los Angeles"
on Vimeo. He spent several months shooting downtown theatres
and other historic buildings from a drone that resembled "a mutant
chicken." It's four minutes and forty five seconds of wonder that's not
to be missed.
2017 - A look upward from the sidewalk. Thanks to Mike Hume for sharing his photo. Visit his
Historic Theatre Photography site for hundreds of fine photos of the theatres he's explored. And don't miss his page about the
Belasco.
2018 - Looking south across the Belasco's facade toward 11th St. Photo: Bill Counter
2018 - Not much valet business in mid-afternoon. Photo: Bill Counter
2018 - A corner view. Photo: Bill Counter
2018 - A wider shot. The low rise building in front of the theatre has been
turned into support space for the operation, including a kitchen. On the
right across Broadway it's Geoff Palmer's new Broadway Palace apartment
complex. Photo: Bill Counter
2023 - The
seldom seen decorative work behind the gates at the south end of the
facade. The stairs here go up to the ballroom. Photo: Bill Counter
2025 - A fine view north on Hill taken by Paul Wright. It's one of nine photos he shared in a post on the
DTLA Development group on Facebook.

Looking toward the alley. The windows, here seen covered, were originally just decorative arches inside. When the building was churched, they were cut out to become functional windows. Photo: Bill Counter - 2016
In the south exit passageway:
A look along the south side of the building from the fire escape. Thanks to Dave Bullock for his 2007 photo. Visit his website
www.eecue.com for more of his fine work. The 19 photos in the
Belasco Theatre set cover the building from the basement to the booth.

A look at the stagehouses from 11th & Broadway. Thanks to Ken McIntyre for his photo.

The Belasco and Mayan stagehouses as seen from up in the Case Hotel Building, now reborn as the Proper Hotel. That's the edge of the Herald Examiner Building on the extreme left of the photo. Thanks to Hunter Kerhart for his 2016 photo. Keep up with his recent explorations:

A lovely view down from the Proper Hotel in 2024. Thanks to Paul Wright for sharing his photo with the
DTLA Development Facebook group. The new high-rise on the right is the Onni Group's residential tower just north of the Mayan, at Olympic and Hill.
